Choosing audio-only baby monitors can be a tough decision for parents. There are many audio-only baby monitors on the market, but which one is best? We will review some of the best audio-only baby monitors on the market and answer questions that parents have asked about audio-only monitors.
What are audio-only baby monitors and how do they work?
Audio-only baby monitors provide parents with audio through a speaker but do not have video capabilities. Parents can hear the sounds of their child’s room on an audio monitor and know if they’ve stirred or made noise. There is also no light to disturb your sleeping infant on audio-only models.
This makes it easier for you to fall asleep at night while keeping tabs on your little one without worrying about constant peeking into his/her bedroom!
What are some benefits of using audio-only baby monitors?
The best benefit that comes from having audio-only baby monitors is knowing what happens in the nursery when you’re not around. If you use a traditional video monitor then your camera will be turned off while you’re away, which means that audio can still come through to the monitor. If there were any noises in your baby’s room then you would not know about it since your camera is turned off! Having audio-only monitors allows for constant monitoring of your child even while out and about or sleeping yourself.
What are some common issues with audio-only baby monitors?
The biggest issue that comes with audio-only models is that they cannot see what’s going on in the nursery as traditional video monitors do. So if something happens where a noise wakes up an infant (e.g., loud music coming from outside), parents will not be able to remotely pan their cameras so they can see what has woken up their little one(s).
Benefits of using an audio-only monitor?
One benefit of audio-only baby monitors is that they are much cheaper than video models. Another great feature about audio-only monitors is the portability, where parents can take them on a trip or in their suitcase when going out of town. This allows for constant monitoring so you always know what your child is up to!
Things to consider before purchasing an audio-only monitor?
Before purchasing audio-only monitors, parents need to decide if they are okay with not being able to see their child. Parents also have the option of buying an audio monitor that has both video and audio features so you can choose whether or not you want a visual on your baby when in his/her room.
So before making your purchase online or at a store, make sure that you know what kind of model will best suit your needs! If this is something new for you then it might be worth looking into different models before deciding which one best fits all of your criteria.
How to choose the best one for your needs?
Choosing the best audio-only monitor for your needs might be a bit hard, but we’ve made it simple! Here are some of our top choices and why they make great audio-only baby monitors:
The Vtech Safe & Philips Avent is one of the most popular audio-only monitors on Amazon. It has many features that parents love such as temperature alerts, sound lights to let you know when noise is detected in your child’s room, and two-way talkback capabilities so you can speak through the camera from any location.
Are audio baby monitors safe to use?
Yes! Audio monitors allow for constant monitoring of your child even when you’re not around so that if something happens then you will be alerted immediately. All audio monitors require a password before being used by another person or device which ensures safety while using them. If there is any cause for concern where sight should also be involved (e.g., loud music coming from outside) then it would be best to purchase one with both video/audio features so you can choose whether or not to turn on your camera in these situations.
Can I hear anything besides my baby?
No. Audio-only baby monitors only allow you to hear your child’s noises and not any other sound in the room (e.g., loud music coming from outside). If this is something that might bother you then it would be best to purchase one with both audio/video features so you can choose whether or not to turn on your camera when there are sounds going on around your nursery.

Customer questions & answers by product VTech
Why did you buy this product instead of a video baby monitor? Is it just price, or something else? Trying to decide for me!
I bought them for the price, but also because when you are sleeping you are not able to see the video monitor. The biggest reason why I did not buy the video monitors is that I did not see the point. If I really need to see my child I can just walk into the room.
Is the distance range really close to 1,000 feet?
I’m not great at judging distances is probably 200′-300′ away from the house and we were using it in the basement.

Providing a safe environment for a toddler or baby is a must for a parent. Parents, now more than ever, are cautious about their children’s surroundings and will most likely try to baby-proof their homes.
Today, this can easily be done with modern gadgets and tools. One of the most basic of these tools is a baby monitor, which can get pretty expensive. A budget option comes from VTech, the VTech DM111 the VTech DM111 is designed to transmit clear sounds from a child’s room while you’re finishing chores or doing work around the house while the DECT 6.0 digital technology does its job. The DM111 in terms of sound quality and clarity excels with high marks, even compared to baby monitors with more expensive price tags.
The sounds have little to no interference and static. It’s fairly easy to use because there’s literally no complication to it. Just turn it on and use it right away. This means you could even leave it with the elderly and they’ll have no difficulty using it.
The manufacturer has not made any claims about the range of the product, but some tests have been made, and apparently the connection was maintained through nine walls with a distance of more than 160 feet. It’s very convenient for larger houses.
Unfortunately, this product uses AAA batteries instead of the more practical rechargeable batteries, and to add to that is the battery life of just 13 hours, which is rather disappointing. Meaning that you’ll have to use this monitor plugged in most of the time.
This device also lacks features. It’s a simple and no-frills baby-to-parent sound transmitter, but it does that job pretty well. If you want more features, you might want to look elsewhere. One of the nice things this baby monitor has going on is the alerts, like low battery and out of range, which give you a warning beforehand.
The VTech DM111 really shines in the department of sound quality. It gets rid of the background noise and interference, it has a sound indicator that has five levels of lights that blip when the volume is higher in the other part, even if you’ve muted the receiver.

The best review of a baby monitor audio Philips AVENT SCD501
Doing a review of the Philips Avent Baby Phone that I have been using, ever since my twins were born. So I’ve been using it for about a year, four months now, and I absolutely love this baby phone.
It’s a simple baby phone, it’s also not so expensive. It just gives sound, no video. So it comes with two pieces, both have cables to connect to electricity. Let me start with this piece. So this is what you put in the baby’s room. It’s really simple, it just has one button. So you turn it on over here, right? And it has a green light to signal that it’s on and it’s working, and there’s a soft light that glows over here. So it comes with a lamp, a small lamp if I can call it that.
You switch it on over here, just press and hold. There you go, I hope you can see that. So I find that absolutely useful because it helps you with an orientation at night when it’s dark. It’s absolutely great because it is not too bright. It’s bright enough to give you orientation, and for you to be able to breastfeed or change a diaper in the night, but it’s not too bright that it disturbs your sleep or it disturbs the baby’s sleep, so absolutely great.
That’s what it looks like, okay? And then we have the second part, which is what you take with you to be able to hear the babies. So this is what it looks like.
You can see the small speaker, this is where you get the sound. And you turn it on over here, the big button in the middle. And this is what it looks like when you turn it on. So there’s the red light blinking until it connects with the piece in the baby’s room, then it turns green to show you that it’s working.
You see how it’s green. What other features do we have? Let me, okay. So you have the cable to connect to the electricity, but you can use batteries, as well. For instance, if you want to go outside, maybe sit in the garden, or if you have a big house, you’re not confined to just connecting it to electricity. You can just put batteries and move around with it. I never used batteries, so I can’t say much about it, I just connected it to electricity. I don’t live in a huge apartment, so I just put it in one spot and I can hear it from basically everywhere. You can increase the volume.
I hope you can see that. Okay, and you also have a light, if you’re using batteries, you also have a light that shows you when your batteries are running low. So it’s simple and it has worked very well, I’ve never had any malfunctions with this baby phone and I definitely would recommend it for anybody looking for a baby phone.
And it has a security feature, which I find absolutely great and necessary. So here’s the thing, if some creepy person thinks they can crawl into your baby’s room and harm them or whatever, and they think they can just switch off the baby’s phone and you don’t hear anything, they are wrong.
Because what happens is that the moment it’s, the piece in the baby’s room is switched off, you get an alarm. So let me see if I can demonstrate that. I hope it works because it’s too close, but let’s try it. So I switch that off. That’s what goes into the baby’s room, I switch it off. Let’s see what happens. It usually takes about 20 seconds to react. Now it’s blinking red, and I guess it gives you a chance to rectify the error. And if nothing happens in about 15 to 20 seconds, then an alarm goes off, and then you know something is wrong. There you go. And then it goes off every 15 seconds until you either switch that back on or switch this off. So let me just switch that off.
Okay, so that was it for my review of the Philips Avent Baby Phone, I hope you found it useful. Don’t hesitate to share this video with anybody who might be looking for a baby phone. And if you haven’t subscribed, please subscribe and check out my other tips, videos. Yeah, so, I hope you enjoyed the video, and thank you so much for watching. Bye. Hi guys.

Are both the parent and baby unit cordless or just the parent unit?
Only the parent unit is cordless. Also, you cannot talk through the parent unit to the baby unit like you can with other models. We have a second older Philips model that allows this and use that feature on occasion to talk to my spouse when in the baby room.
What frequency does this run on?
The monitor works on DECT frequency (1880MHz-1900MHz).
I was thinking about using this in my barn so that I can hear my horses.
It says it works up to 300 ft. I’ve used it on my deck, but the distance is only about 75 feet.

Philips AVENT DECT SCD501/10
The sound is great, turns up loud, and is very light. It doesn’t have 2-way speaking but we didn’t need/want that. It makes a sound and the light goes red on the parent monitor if it is not connected (if the one in the baby’s room isn’t plugged in, for example) which is great if you forget to plug it in!
