Your toddler may have the freedom of a new bed for those first few nights after transferring permanently to it. But, most children are happy enough with their room and will stay in that same space more willingly than they did when staying at home sleeping next door or downstairs from you. However, there’s always an exception-a small group that needs close management during this transition period. The key is keeping everything consistent so as not to disrupt any established habits too much.
Repeat these steps to begin the process:
- When you think it’s time to end a routine, tell your child that she needs to stay in bed until mommy comes for her.
- If your kid gets out of bed, calmly and quietly lead them back to their room. Tell them that they must stay in bed until you leave or call for help.
- When she gets back into bed, tell her how proud you are of being such a good girl for coming to comfort mode when needed. Then leave the room quickly so that your pup can rest without any distractions or questions from people around them while they heal emotionally as well as physically.
- You can say that you will come and check on her during the night. For some children, this provides reassurance.

It can be tough to get your kid into bed, but it’s worth all the trouble when they finally sleep. You’ll have plenty of chances for success over several nights in a row if you follow these steps. The first thing is just to make sure not to interact with them until after their lights go out and keep things low-key by giving praise instead of engaging in conversation or tutoring sessions during those times that we’re home from work/school etc. The aim here really isn’t getting anything done-it’s more about rewarding our children by letting them stay up late without being asked.
The attention-seeking nature of children can be seen in their advertising strategies. If getting out of bed brings your toddler negative or positive reinforcement, she will do it again and continue with this behavior despite knowing the consequences.
Bedroom breakouts can be a major issue for parents
While respecting your toddler’s newfound mobility, make sure that once it’s time for sleep people have to stay in bed until morning unless they go somewhere else. Avoid rewarding bedroom breakouts like being able to join the members of the family who are still up or getting into bed with someone else; instead, praise them when you wake up early the next day.
Make Your Home Safer
Your child may be trying to climb out of bed whether you want him or not, which is why it’s important for parents and caregivers alike to let the little ones know that this only happens during sleep time. In addition, make sure his room feels safe by removing any hazards insight before buying a new crib mattress while waiting on funds from your purchase; place pillows carefully around each side so as not leave spaces where he can grab onto anything else besides what should belong there (i mean come one – no more beds).
Take care to make your home safe for little ones. Install gates at the top of stairs so they can’t wander off and get hurt, remove furniture that may harm them if something happened while you’re asleep (like large toys), secure safety latches on chests or drawers which would allow children access but prevent adults from opening it without knowing what is inside first-hand knowledge about their child’s capabilities.
